Darcy looked away at what she said. She seemed to good to be true. It was fine... It wasn't like he was going to kill her for dreaming. Looking back at her question he said it as cold and emotionless as he could. Almost in a whisper because there were people in the other rooms of the resteraunt.
[yellow]"My line of work is not what you think it is. The Demon is The League of Shadow's hidden alias in Arabic. What remnents are left we try to preserve as the last of our kind. The reason I accepted going to this school was there was something fishy about hiring really good people and really bad. Hiring them to corrupt or ease the minds of Gotham's confused superpowered youth. It intruiged me to know what was behind it. I accepted."[/yellow]
His cold blue eyes stated his true mission meeting hers in all seriousness. He wasn't here for play.
[yellow]"When the balance is disturbed in life or a civilization it's my mission along with a simple few to rid the world of these imbalances. There is always a chain reaction based on the words or actions of one confused or brilliant individual. That chain reaction creates War and Peace. Let's see if I can explain this to your understanding..."[/yellow]
He let go of her hand and stroked his chin in a deep train of thought.
[yellow]"People must die. If there is too much life, I must kill that life. If there is a lack of life, I must destroy the source of that evil. My line of work is the hardest to carry. Because despite my feelings in a situation, I must put intellect before instinct and do what is truly right when needed... I am a bringer of balance."[/yellow]
It was really hard for Darcy. Everything. If he knew the kind of burden he'd carry before being taken to those God Forsaken hot springs, he would have chosen death before life. He would have let those men kill him.

She sighed and looked down as he spoke. Of course this had to happen to her. Was her life cursed or something? She falls in love, he goes to Arkham and breaks it off. She falls in love again, and the person is 'the bringer of balance'. What did that even mean? More importantly, what does that mean for her? She already had her life planned after her schooling years, she knew that her dream was going to be a reality one of these years. But when that happened, was that bad news for Victoria?
'Okay, now you've got da right ta be nervous.'
'No shit, Sherlock. But, no.... It could be worse. He could try to kill me now for just dreaming.
'Ah guess ya have a point. Jus' don' jinx yerself, Vic.'[/i]
She decided it best to not think about that far into the future now. Vi was still in eleventh grade anyway. She had two years left. She wanted to try and change the subject, yet she couldn't think of how to. Maybe a lie, a small lie. It was always worth a try.
No. Vi couldn't seem to bring herself to lie to him. "It's just a dream, Darc. It probably won't ever happen. Especially if my brother gets any say in the matter." Yeah, if Vincent was ever found.

Darcy looked at her and smiled.
[yellow]"You really think I even thought about that Vic? Killing the love of my life's the last thing on my agenda...and..."[/yellow]
His hand grabbed hers again from across the small table.
[yellow]"It'd be the hardest thing for me to do... Just... Do what is right for you. Don't let me be the one to shut you down. If it ever comes to that... You'll have to kill me."[/yellow]
He smiled tragically at her. Why was he talking about this at a romantic dinner? That he devised! Put forth a ton of effort and even wanted to take her home at the end of the day! Hopefully she'd understand him.
[yellow]"There's nothing more I'd ever want then to end it. I live in a curse, Vic. It was hard to watch my loved ones grow old while I stayed young. It was hard to fall so hard over you... Someone who should be my enemy."[/yellow]
He lifted her hand and kissed it closing his eyes.
[yellow]"We have time to decide on what we want."[/yellow]

She looked at him with surprise. How did he always seem to know what he was thinking to her other personalities. It was so strange.
'He cain't read minds, can he?'
'I... I didn't think so. But it wouldn't surprise me anymore.'
'Did you ever ask?'
'No... but there is no point in asking anyway. We'll find out sooner or later.'[/i]
"I-um... Did i say something?"[/color] She gave him a sheepish look. She knew that he never would be able to, she could never even see herself killing him, and she had done her fair share of kills. How strange that the conversation had come to this. Something in her liked it, and another wanted to change it. Stupid conscience. She'd be much better off without it.
It just donned on her. They should be some of the worst of enemies. A, well, she couldn't say a hero to be... nor a vigilante to be for that matter. Okay, an 'anti-hero' to say, and a villain, criminal... what ever she was called. It didn't seem right. But it didn't seem that wrong, either. Sighing she nodded in agreement. "Or at least two years," Victoria said.
Thinking for a moment, she smiled. "But until then, Darc, let's not think of that." Vi tried to dismiss the thoughts from her head, though in actuality, they were just buried deeper. "Now then, what was life like in the day. You were born in the seventeen hundreds, right? That means you were alive during World War Two... well, of course you were. It happened in the nineteen hundreds after all. What were you doing in the time of the Nazi's?" She asked, officially trying to change the subject. Victoria was practically in love with that war. Of course, she would always side with the German side just because she had a fascination with Hitler. So this topic made her particularly piqued her curiosity and interest.

Darcy looked bewildered that she didn't know he knew what she was thinking. She mentioned wanting to be a criminal... Criminals disrupted the balance. If it were a bad enough disruption, it would mean his involvement. He didn't want that but her choices were hers. Not his. He smiled when she asked him that question.
[yellow]"The League of Shadows were really the ones that murdered Mussolini. The backing out of one Axis side would countermeasure the imbalance Hitler brought with the Holocaust. He killed hundreds of thousands of innocent people based on racism... So it was up to us unanimously that he'd lose the war."[/yellow]
He grinned sheepishly. This was a fun topic because he actually liked hanging that Italian bastard and putting it up as a government coup de'tat. It was pleasurable.
[yellow]"We took out one of the three governments from the inside and gave the Americans assurance in winning."[/yellow]

'Phew... Ah don' think he can read min's, Vic.'
'Well, maybe it was just obvious what i was thinkin'. Oh, it doesn't matter.'[/i]
Her smile didn't fade as he spoke. Some of what he was telling her made sense. And she never did think Mussolini died the way the books said. Now Hitler was another story. Vi's mind could completely comprehend him committing suicide. She would hate to know that she was going to lose and living with failure twice.
"So, the only reason America won was because you took Mussolini out? But Hitler really did commit suicide, right?" She had to make sure. Now if the League of Shadow's had had a hand in the actual death of Hitler, then she would have a problem. It might sound wrong to most, but Hitler had always been her all time favorite dictator. But she didn't really tell people that.
"How long ago did you come to America, anyway, Darc?" She was starting to become her normal, inquisitive self again. Vi took a few bites of her food, intrigued to hear what he would tell her.

Darcy nodded in assurance.
[yellow]"In 1945, Hitler wasn't going to just surrender to a country he tried to invade. His only viable option was suicide."[/yellow]
He smiled continueing to answer his curious girlfriend's questions.
[yellow]"1861. I was a spy for the Union. In infiltrating the Confederate ranks as one of their own, I achieved the rank of Major in a year. From there on I gave the Union information and let them do the rest. With a 16 year old Major's help, The Union successfully blocked all Confederate trade because a handful of double agents provided trade routes."[/yellow]
He shrugged his shoulders. There wasn't more he could tell her about being in America.
[yellow]"I didn't stay there after the Civil War. The League of Shadows hasn't set foot in America since the Civil War until 2005. Ra's al Ghul... The man who trained me found this city's corruption to be unbearable. You do remember don't you? The giant monorail wreck that killed hundreds of people. The fear toxin that with the help of the water main and a powerful weapon, infiltrated the streets. All was the League of Shadow's doing. I wasn't there when it happened. I was well infomed by an outside source though."[/yellow]

Victoria let out a sigh of relief. Thank goodness. She probably would have flipped if Hitler had died any other way.
This was rather fun. She loved learning about what it was like back in his time. Well, today was still his time, but the older days is what she was talking about.
"For the Union? You were a spy for the Union? That's so neat. Wow... Though i sorta lean more towards the Confederate side, that is still sweet." Her excitement grew a tad. Guess MPD had more of an effect on her mood than she had ever realized, or maybe she had bipolar disorder as well? Food for thought another day, though. Right now, her mind was set on her boyfriend and the stories of his past.
She giggled a little. Of course she remembered that. She was in Arkham when that happened. If it wasn't for her immunity, she probably would have died. Such a young girl shouldn't have to be put through that, her sanity barely intact herself. "Oh, i remember that, alright. I miss Doctor Crane, though," she said simply. Those were the days. She had been a test subject once during that time. Being immune to his toxins, she had made for a rather good experiment. Though she would offer herself up to another experiment by him anytime.
"Okay, so what about Sixteen Century England? Could ya tell me about that?"

Darcy grinned as he continued telling her about what life was like.
[yellow]"Not much different from today except with a lack of technology and the mode of transportation wasn't in aviation. Sailing."[/yellow]
He put his hand up to his chin another train of thought.
[yellow]"I guess we wore a much different attire. Fashion was a bigger deal back then."[/yellow]
He smiled and put his hand back over hers, feeling her fingers. Darcy couldn't have been happier at that moment. She was there. With him. Something he couldn't even describe in his feelings.
